9-year-old with cancer meets baby sister before he dies: whispers 10 words that break parents’ hearts

The family of Bailey Cooper received devastating news in 2016. Their son was diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Bailey’s life quickly changed to focus on treatments and doctor visits.

For a while, it seemed like things were getting better when his cancer went into remission. However, the relief was short-lived. Bailey returned to school, but soon the family learned that his cancer had returned. This meant more rounds of chemotherapy and hospital visits.

Once again, the treatments seemed to help, and Bailey began to feel better. But in August, the family received the hardest news yet: Bailey’s cancer had returned, and this time, the prognosis was grim.

“The doctor told us it was Stage Four, and it was more aggressive,” said Lee, Bailey’s father. The cancer had spread to Bailey’s chest, lungs, liver, and stomach. Doctors told the family he only had days or weeks to live.

Despite the sad news, Bailey was determined to meet his baby sister, who was due a few months later. His family held on to hope, praying he would live long enough. Bailey, showing his strength, held his sister Millie when she was born. He even chose her name.

“He hugged her and did everything an older brother would do,” said Rachel, Bailey’s mother. But after Millie’s birth, Bailey’s health began to decline.

Hoping to celebrate Christmas together, Bailey’s parents encouraged him to make a list of gifts. Bailey selflessly asked for presents for his younger brother, Riley.

On Christmas Eve, as Bailey’s condition worsened, the family knew the end was near. They sat by his side, reading stories and playing his favorite music. At 11:45 a.m., Bailey passed away, peacefully with his family around him.

Though it was heartbreaking, the family found comfort knowing Bailey was no longer in pain. They now try to honor his wishes: “You’re only allowed to cry for 20 minutes,” Bailey had said. His legacy continues to inspire those who hear his story.
