In a bold move to capture attention, Albanian TV station Zjarr hired a young journalist to present the news without wearing a bra, causing both excitement and controversy. This decision quickly gained attention, especially in a country where 60% of the population is Muslim. The move sparked a wave of reactions on social media, both from within Albania and internationally.
Challenging Traditional Views
Despite the mixed reactions, Zjarr TV’s approach proved to be a success. The station’s owner, Ismet Drishti, explained to AFP that viewers were drawn to the channel’s “naked truth” in a political climate that many consider manipulated. “We’re not selling sex; we’re sharing the news as it is,” Drishti emphasized, explaining that the braless look was meant to symbolize transparency.

The trend began in 2016 with 21-year-old Enki Bracaj, who quickly became a sensation. A Zjarr TV spokesperson acknowledged that the braless news style was unconventional but clarified that it didn’t hurt the station’s ratings. The idea was Enki’s, and she originally appeared for an interview with her blouse unbuttoned, which sparked the change. Enki’s family supported her decision, recognizing that bold steps were necessary in a competitive field.
New Faces, Same Approach
After Enki left Zjarr TV, rumors surfaced that she was unhappy with her salary, but the station pointed to her Playboy modeling gig as the reason for her departure. Her successor, 24-year-old Greta Hoxhaj, continued the trend, enjoying newfound fame after five years of being unnoticed on local TV. Hoxhaj’s rise to fame was rapid, thanks to her unique style on Zjarr TV.
Mixed Reactions
Videos of the presenters went viral, leading to varied opinions. Some viewers criticized the style, calling for better media standards, while others defended the decision. Even the President of the Union of Albanian Journalists voiced concerns about using nudity as a solution to media challenges, but Hoxhaj remained unfazed, expressing satisfaction with her career and the life she had built.
