Caring for our newborn meant missing dinner—my husband didn’t save me a plate

Jenna’s Struggles with Family and New Motherhood

Jenna, a first-time mom, found it difficult to balance caring for her newborn son and keeping up with household chores. She did her best to keep everything clean and make sure her baby was well-fed, all while handling errands and making dinner every day.

A Promise of Help

One day, Jenna’s husband, John, suggested his mother move in to help around the house. Jenna, feeling overwhelmed, welcomed the idea, believing that it would ease her burden. She thought her mother-in-law’s presence would be a relief, but little did she know that it would add more stress.

Trouble from the Start

In the first few days of her stay, Jenna’s mother-in-law started inviting guests over, but offered no help with the housework. Instead, her visits seemed to make things harder. Jenna struggled with everything from diaper changes to feeding her baby and barely had time to sit down for a meal.

One evening, after putting the baby to bed, Jenna went downstairs hoping her mother-in-law had prepared dinner. But when she asked, her MIL coldly replied, “We thought you weren’t hungry.” Jenna was hurt, especially when John didn’t defend her and even told her to clean up the mess.

Reaching Her Breaking Point

Feeling unsupported, Jenna decided to leave. She packed up herself and the baby and went to her mother’s house. Despite her distress, John repeatedly called, demanding that she apologize to his mom.

A Solution from Her Father-in-Law

Jenna decided to reach out to her father-in-law, who was unaware of the situation. When he arrived at Jenna’s home, he saw John and his mother laughing together. He immediately told them that it was time for Jenna to return home, and they needed to support her more.

From that day forward, things improved. John became more involved with their son, and his mother started helping around the house. Jenna found peace, thanks to her father-in-law’s intervention.
