Eva Mendes, born on March 5, 1974, in Miami, Florida, is an American actress of Cuban descent. Her parents, Eva Pérez Suárez and Juan Carlos Méndez, divorced during her childhood, leading her mother to raise her in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Silver Lake.

Raised in a Roman Catholic household, Mendes once considered becoming a nun before pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.

Mendes began her acting career with minor roles in the late 1990s but gained significant attention in 2001 with her role opposite Denzel Washington in the critically acclaimed crime thriller “Training Day.”
