Girl’s letter to her future self, written months before she passed away

A Letter to the Future: Taylor Smith’s Heartfelt Message

Like most teenagers, 12-year-old Taylor Smith from Johnson City, Tennessee, had big dreams. She wanted to go to college, travel, and make memories with friends. A fan of Doctor Who and deeply connected to her faith, Taylor had a bright spirit that touched everyone around her.

In April 2013, Taylor wrote a letter to her future self, planning to open it on April 12, 2023. The letter, stored in a box in her room, outlined her dreams and life goals. Tragically, Taylor never got to read it. She passed away a few months later due to complications from pneumonia. Her sudden death left her parents, Tim and Mary Ellen, devastated.

While sorting through Taylor’s belongings, her parents found the letter. It was a bittersweet discovery, filled with hope and wisdom from their daughter. They decided to share it online, offering others comfort and inspiration. Mary Ellen explained, “I can’t bring her back, but I’m grateful her story has touched so many.”

Taylor’s Letter

In her letter, Taylor encouraged her future self to keep pushing forward, no matter what life brought. She wrote:

“Congratulations on graduating high school! If you didn’t, go back and keep trying. How’s your relationship with God? Have you prayed or served Him recently? If not, do it now!”

She also included playful questions, like whether Doctor Who was still on air and if she’d visited Dollywood or gone on mission trips. Taylor reminded herself, “Good and bad things happen in life, and you have to go with it.”

A Lasting Legacy

Taylor’s letter, filled with faith, humor, and wisdom, became a source of comfort for many. Though her life was short, her words continue to inspire people worldwide, showing the impact of her vibrant and thoughtful spirit.
