I came home early the other day, hoping to surprise my kids and steal a quiet moment with my husband, but what I walked into was nothing short of unsettling.
Life had been overwhelming, balancing my job and managing three young kids. After some thought, we decided to hire a nanny.
Emma seemed perfect—young, polite, great with the kids, and always keeping things tidy around the house. Everything seemed fine… until yesterday.
When I arrived home, I noticed my husband’s car was already in the driveway, which struck me as odd. I expected the kids to be playing, but the house was eerily quiet.
I entered the living room, calling out, “Emma? Kids?” That’s when Emma appeared, dripping wet and wrapped in a towel. “Oh! Mrs. Greene, you’re home early!” she said, looking startled.
Confused, I asked, “Why are you wet?” Before she could respond, my husband walked in from the kitchen, acting unusually cheerful. Emma quickly explained, “One of the kids spilled juice on me, so I thought I’d rinse off before you got home.”
I was taken aback. “You took a shower? In our house?” I asked, unable to hide my disbelief. My husband casually shrugged it off, “It’s no big deal. She was covered in juice, and I told her it was fine.” His nonchalant attitude made my stomach turn.
I felt something wasn’t right, but my husband just dismissed my concerns, saying I was overreacting. Emma quickly excused herself to check on the kids, but I stood there, stunned, trying to make sense of it all.
Why was she so comfortable? And why was my husband defending her? I knew one thing: something didn’t feel right in my own home anymore.
