Jenna Ortega has been in the spotlight lately for her intense scene with Martin Freeman in Miller’s Girl, but this isn’t her first time working with actors much older than her. The 21-year-old, best known for her role in Wednesday, surprised fans when a scene from her new film began circulating online.
In the scene, Ortega, who plays Cairo Sweet, has an intense interaction with Freeman, aged 52. This pairing of an actress known for playing a teen and an actor famous for his role in Sherlock has caused some discomfort for many viewers.
However, this isn’t Ortega’s first experience with a significant age gap in a scene. Back in 2022, she starred alongside Kid Cudi in the horror film X. Set in 1979, the film follows young filmmakers trying to create an adult film in rural Texas, only to be caught in a dangerous situation.
In X, Ortega, at 19, performed a sex scene with Cudi, who was 37 at the time. Throughout the filming process, the cast had the support of Tandi Wright, an intimacy coordinator, who was praised for making everyone feel comfortable.
Ortega, in an interview with Indie Wire, shared her excitement about joining X. “I was really eager to do the film because it was something I had never done before,” she said. She added that her sex scene was not part of the initial script but was added later to make the story feel more spontaneous.
Two years later, Ortega worked with Kristina Arjona, another intimacy coordinator, on Miller’s Girl. Arjona made sure that everyone, especially Ortega, felt safe during the filming of the intimate scenes. She explained, “I’m hyper aware of both of my talent and making sure that we’re consistently checking in.”
