My boyfriend gave me a ‘crappy’ Christmas present of a cheap small wine bottle and said he also had a gift for me ‘in his pants’ – so I broke up with him and blocked him

A woman shared her Christmas experience on Reddit, asking if she was wrong for breaking up with her boyfriend after a disappointing gift exchange. The 28-year-old woman broke up with her 38-year-old boyfriend on Christmas day after receiving what she felt was a thoughtless gift.

Her ex and his 16-year-old daughter received gifts they loved, but her gifts were underwhelming. She got a small bottle of wine and a gift he claimed was “in his pants.” After the exchange, the woman asked him to leave and took back her present. She cried after he left, and when he texted her to check on her, she broke up with him and blocked him.

She was already stressed due to moving houses and starting a new job before Christmas. Despite this, she managed to buy thoughtful gifts for her ex and his daughter. She made sure the tree looked nice and even made herself look pretty for the occasion, buying food her ex liked.

However, her ex didn’t seem appreciative. He mocked her makeup and Santa hat, calling her a “ridiculous cartoon.” She had gotten him AirPods, and his daughter enjoyed the Hot Topic gifts, but he didn’t show any affection.

The woman then noticed the bottle of wine was marked “3-5 USD at the 7-11,” and she wasn’t happy with it. She didn’t drink and hadn’t wanted a gift. Her ex also gave her an “IOU” and said she was supposed to take his “boy parts” as a gift, which she found crude and vulgar.

After breaking up with him, his siblings contacted her, calling her “materialistic and shallow” for expecting more from a gift.

Reddit users strongly supported her decision to break up with him. Many felt he showed a lack of respect for her, and that the problem was deeper than just the gift. One user commented, “If you stay with him, you will just get more of this.”
