My husband’s children hate me, but I’m grateful he stood by me against their cruelty

A Challenging Relationship with Stepchildren

A woman shared her story on Reddit about how her husband’s children made her life miserable after they got married.

Meeting Her Husband

She met her husband two years after his wife passed away. At the time, his children were still in their twenties and he was still grieving. Although he wasn’t looking for a relationship, he enjoyed spending time with the woman, and they eventually started dating. Unfortunately, his children never accepted her. They believed she was trying to replace their mother, and the age difference — she was 53, and he was ten years younger — made things more difficult.

The Kids’ Disrespect

The children never openly showed their dislike for her in front of their father. In his presence, they acted polite, so she never felt comfortable telling him about their behavior. However, behind his back, they often called her names and told her to leave their father.

The Wedding and Honeymoon Trouble

When the couple got engaged, their dislike for her only grew. During their small civil wedding, none of his children attended, claiming they had other plans. It didn’t upset her or her husband, as it was a simple ceremony.

But trouble arose during their honeymoon. After saving for the trip, they were shocked when his children showed up at their villa in the Bahamas. They claimed they missed their father but were really there to make snide comments about her. They yelled at her, telling her she didn’t deserve to stay in the luxurious villa because of her age. The argument escalated until their father came out, furious, and told his children to stop treating her like that.

A Turning Point

After confronting his children, her husband cut off the financial support he had been giving them. Over time, the children apologized, realizing that their father was truly happy with his new wife.
