A Heartwarming Turn for Riona, the Brave Dog Set on Fire
It’s hard to imagine how anyone could be so cruel to a dog, but last year, a sweet pitbull mix named Riona suffered a horrific act of abuse. She was set on fire by her owner in Nutbush, Tennessee. Thankfully, a year later, Riona is recovering and heading to a loving new home.
A Shocking Incident
In June last year, residents saw Riona running down the street, engulfed in flames and reeking of gasoline. Witnesses confirmed she was intentionally set on fire, with footage showing her running while burning. Her injuries were severe: she lost an ear and suffered fourth-degree burns.
Despite her trauma, Riona was saved by the Tails of Hope Dog Rescue and treated at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists. Her road to recovery included daily treatments, skin grafts, and full-body wraps to protect her healing skin.
A Dog’s Unwavering Spirit
What amazed her caregivers was Riona’s resilience and sweet nature throughout her recovery. “She’s always wagging her tail,” one vet remarked. “For someone to do this to such a loving dog is heartbreaking.”
Her story went viral on TikTok, attracting global attention and support. Donations poured in, along with gifts to aid her recovery. Her case even contributed to the passage of a new animal cruelty law in Tennessee.
Now, a year after the horrific incident, Riona is heading to her forever home. Her new family has experience with medical needs, a big yard, and children to play with. “Riona’s story isn’t ending—it’s just beginning,” the rescue shared.
Meanwhile, Riona’s abuser, Quishon Brown, faces criminal charges. While justice is being pursued, Riona’s journey reminds us of the resilience of animals and the importance of rescues in giving them second chances.
