The Letter That Ended My Marriage
Doing the laundry was my usual chore, a peaceful task that gave me a few moments of quiet. But one ordinary evening turned my life upside down when I discovered a letter in my husband’s laundry.
The Shocking Discovery
As I sorted through the clothes, a folded note slipped to the floor. Recognizing my husband’s handwriting, I opened it, expecting something harmless. Instead, I read:
“Happy anniversary, babe! These 7 years have been the best of my life! Meet me at Obélix on Wednesday night, 8 p.m. Be in red.”
David and I had been married for 18 years. The realisation hit me like a ton of bricks—he was writing to someone else.
Piecing Things Together
My mind replayed moments I had ignored: his late nights, business trips, and excuses. I trusted him completely and had never imagined this could happen. The next day, the letter was gone, likely taken by him. Unsure what to do, I confided in my mother, who suggested confronting him directly. Instead, I decided on a different plan.
Facing the Truth
That evening, when he claimed he was working late, I put on a red dress he had gifted me years ago and went to Obélix. Inside, I spotted a woman in red and sat nearby, waiting. David arrived, smiling warmly at her. My heart sank as I realized she was the one he wrote the letter to.
When I greeted him, his face turned pale. He had told her we were separated and staying civil for the children. She seemed just as confused as I was.
The End of a Chapter
I left before he could explain, deciding he owed our daughters the truth. Our marriage ended that day. Though bitter at first, I later felt relief. Some endings bring clarity.
