Unemployed Dad with Face Tattoo Finds Hope After Months of Job Searching

Mark Cropp is one of those rare stories of success and hope, and of the ways in which social networking can bring people together in ways that were unimaginable even a few years ago. After serving time for a failed drug deal, Mark faced a significant challenge upon his release: a big face tattoo that made him always recall his misdeeds and could hardly secure a job.

The word “Devast8” was made by him and his brother when they were in prison, one night, suffering from withdrawal caused by opium, and drunk on concoction brew, they decided to tattoo Mark’s face using matchstick and some soot. This rash decision made him bear a permanent tattoo that the later on realized had a negative impact in that did not help him get a job and provide for the family.

Mark was extremely desperate, so he posted his story that included his picture with a focus on the tattoo. Most people received his appeal to give him a second chance, which resulted to high attention and support. This shows the range of work of social media since Mark; in this case, managed to find people and companies ready to assist him.

Sacred Tattoo, a tattooing studio from Auckland, caught Mark’s post and said they will remove the “Devast8” tattoo for free using laser treatment. Their kindness also gave Mark a precious opportunity to discard a serious obstacle when seeking employment and equality that love in society can bring.

Apart from the free tattoo removal, Mark was given a job at PR Contracting, a scaffolding company where he receives $22 an hour. This new position was a major turning point in his life: he was finally able to provide for his partner and young daughter while trying to build a better future for them all.

Mark’s story is quite an uplifting one in today’s context – yes, a human can lose everything he or she had due to being selfish and acted inappropriately, nevertheless a human can try to become a better person again, given that the community will accept this person back and social networking sites will embrace the creator back. It teaches us about second chances and the part which kindness can act whenever people are struggling to succeed.
