A Classic Tune with a Modern Twist
Some kids today seem to ignore the classics, focusing instead on the latest pop hits. But what they’re missing out on is the timeless music that shaped generations before them.
Herman’s Hermits and Their Impact
If you lived through the 1960s, you probably remember the British rock band Herman’s Hermits. Hailing from Manchester, England, they made waves in the United States with their catchy tunes. Their first big hit in 1964 was a cover of Earl-Jean Reeves’ “I’m Into Somethin’ Good,” and it was an instant success. Over the years, Herman’s Hermits continued to top the charts and even made appearances on popular shows like The Ed Sullivan Show, The Jackie Gleason Show, and The Dean Martin Show.
A New Generation Brings a Twist
Fast forward to today, and four talented young women from Towson University have brought their own take on this classic. In front of their college class, they performed a stunning barbershop quartet version of “I’m Into Somethin’ Good.” Their harmonies were incredible, blending perfectly as they sang in unison.
These women didn’t stop there. They formed a group called the GQ: A Capella Quartet, based in Baltimore. The group sings in both a cappella and barbershop styles, and their unique sound has earned them awards. They describe themselves as “four great friends who have a passion for creating a unique sound.”
