Ash Putnam’s Viral TikTok About Job Rejection
Ash Putnam, a 23-year-old from California, recently went viral on TikTok after sharing her frustration about being denied a job at TJ Maxx. Her video has now gathered over seven million views and sparked thousands of comments, with many people agreeing on one possible reason for her rejection.
The Job Application and Rejection
In her TikTok video, Putnam explained how she applied for an entry-level position at TJ Maxx but received an automated rejection email weeks later. She was upset that the company didn’t even bother to call her personally.
To get some answers, Putnam decided to visit the store in person. When she asked the store employees why she didn’t get hired, they told her it was because other candidates had more experience. Putnam also asked if her tattoos played a role in the decision, since some companies are known to avoid hiring people with visible tattoos. The employee reassured her that her tattoos weren’t an issue, though Putnam wasn’t sure if she believed that explanation.
Public Opinion on Her Rejection
Despite the official explanation, many TikTok users seemed to think her tattoos were the real reason she wasn’t hired. Comments from viewers, including people in HR, suggested that companies like TJ Maxx may be hesitant to hire people with tattoos, especially for customer-facing roles.
Putnam believes her tattoos, which some have called “scary” or “demonic,” played a role in the rejection. She noted that many of the comments on her TikTok were negative and judgmental about her appearance. However, she strongly disagrees with the idea that tattoos make someone less qualified for a job.
Changing Perspectives on Tattoos
Putnam thinks that companies need to rethink their hiring practices. She believes tattoos, piercings, and colorful hair should not be seen as unprofessional. Instead, they show creativity and individuality, and she thinks it’s time for society to move past these outdated views.
